Ash Wednesday Services March 6 Lent begins on Ash Wed., March 6, with two services of Holy Eucharist starting at Noon (said) and 6 pm with choir. The services will include the imposition of ashes and Holy Communion. There will be no Healing Service on Thurs., March 7.
Lenten Noontime Prayers
Weekdays, March 7 - April 12 Each weekday during the Lenten season, the Great Litany will be prayed at 12:00 Noon at Christ Church. The Noontime service runs from Thursday, March 7 through Friday April 12. The prayer lasts 15-20 minutes, and is led by staff members and Lay Eucharistic Ministers; a brief time is included to mention those who are ill.
The Great Litany is the earliest liturgical worship service translated from Latin into English by Archbishop Thomas Cramner, and first published and authorized for use in the year 1544. Included in every Prayer Book since 1549, this series of petitions and acknowledgments of our shortcomings has been used by Anglicans in seasons of penitence and crisis, as well as historically for springtime crop planting prayers, known as “rogation” for more than four centuries.
Lenten Soup Suppers
Wednesdays, March 13 - April 10
Plan to join us on Wednesdays during Lent for simple Soup Suppers at 6:15 pm followed by lessons at 7 pm. There are two classes offered this year. Brady Johnson is teaching High and Holy Days – Exploring the worship of Lent, Holy Week and Easter, that will explore the history, meaning, and forms of the most unique and powerful worship offerings of the Christian liturgical year. (Read more here.)
The second class is led by various moderators leading a DVD series by Pastor Tim Keller, A Journey Through Lent: Reflecting on Christ’s Sacrifice for Us. This study of the Psalms can serve as instruction for those looking to spend a season of Lent in reflection and repentance in preparation for celebrating the Resurrection of Jesus on Easter Sunday. (Read more here.)
Please RSVP to the Church Office at 772-562-8670 or on the Friendship Form with a note of your class selection so materials can be acquired.
